Surge, rivers, and rain
The Northshore’s water comes from three directions. Katrina pushed Lake Pontchartrain across the Mandeville lakefront in 2005, and some of the raised cottages in Old Mandeville were dried from the top and closed up fast. The Tchefuncte and the Bogue Falaya come out of their banks after a wet week, and the houses in the lowlands along them in Covington and Madisonville know the drill. And Ida in 2021 took roofs off across St. Tammany, which meant weeks of rain into attics and walls. Louisiana’s Department of Health said after Ida to clean up mold only after every pathway for moisture into the structure has been closed. That is the order we work in.
